Let’s be honest: plastic surgery, GLP-1s, bariatric life, body contouring, recovery, confidence, complications… there is a lot going on. And somehow, the internet still manages to make all of it more confusing.
That is exactly why The Cutting Edge exists.
This is the podcast and YouTube show where we ask the questions people are actually thinking, talk about the things nobody explains well enough, and cut through the nonsense with real experience, real expertise, and zero interest in sugarcoating it.
You can watch us on YouTube or listen on Spotify & Apple Podcasts, preferably somewhere you can laugh loudly and yell, “THANK YOU, that is exactly what I wanted to know.”
Your Hosts
Dr. Omar Beidas brings the medical facts and the surgeon’s point of view. As a board-certified plastic surgeon, he breaks down what is happening in the operating room, what patients should know before surgery, what recovery really looks like, and why some advice online makes him visibly uncomfortable. He explains the serious stuff in a way that actually makes sense. And yes, we absolutely ask him the questions people are usually too nervous to ask.

Mel brings the patient perspective, the lived experience, and the questions that come straight from the community. She has been through bariatric surgery (VSG), weight loss, GLP-1s, revision surgery (VSG to RNY), recovery, body changes, confidence shifts, and all the random emotional chaos that comes with it. She will overshare, say the thing everyone else was thinking. She is an expert at making sure the conversation stays honest, useful, & just a little unhinged.
Ashlyn brings the emotional and behavioral side of the journey. As a bariatric patient and therapist, she understands that changing your body can mess with your head in ways nobody prepares you for. She talks about identity, expectations, relationships, body image, fear, confidence, and why healing is not only physical. She also has a knack for saying something so accurate that everyone suddenly needs a minute.

Together, we cover the whole picture: the medical side, the mental side, and the “okay, but what is this actually like as a patient?” side.
What are we talking about?
Anything that matters to people navigating weight loss, GLP-1 medications, bariatric surgery, plastic surgery, body contouring, and recovery. That includes the exciting stuff, the hard stuff, the awkward stuff, the stuff people whisper in Facebook groups, and the stuff you definitely should have been told before surgery.
No fake perfection, no medical jargon for the sake of sounding impressive, no pretending every journey looks the same.
Just real talk, real questions, and real answers.

Your body can’t heal without enough fuel.
After plastic surgery, protein helps your body repair tissue and heal incisions. But restarting a GLP-1 may suppress your appetite so much that getting enough becomes difficult.
On The Cutting Edge Podcast, we explain why some patients may be asked to wait four weeks or until wounds are fully healed—before restarting.
Always make that decision with your medical team.

Taking a GLP-1 before surgery? Your anesthesia team needs to know.
Because GLP-1s can slow stomach emptying, food may remain even after following fasting instructions. Under anesthesia, that creates a risk of aspiration and serious lung complications.
Dr. Omar Beidas explains why his team takes extra precautions with higher-risk and bariatric patients including a possible two-week pause before surgery.
🎙️ Watch now on The Cutting Edge Podcast, under Our Sleeved Life Podcast. Never pause medication without your medical team.
